Capri, Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento and Pompeii Field Trip: April 7-9, 2017

Join the Student Life crew for a new twist on our old classic and very popular trips to Capri and Pompeii! For the first time, we’ll be combining our trip to the beautiful Isle of Capri with our tour of the excavations at Pompeii, as well as adding overnight stays in the town of Sorrento. And if that weren’t enough, we will climb to the summit of a volcano, the famous Mount Vesuvius.

Capri: magnificent coastal walks, flower-strewn mountain slopes and, of course, the shimmering blue Mediterranean sea with its natural wonders which include the magical Blue Grotto and Faraglione.

Pompeii: buried under ash and pumice and lost for over 1500 years, this Roman city frozen in time was rediscovered 4 centuries ago. Today this UNESCO World Heritage site offers extraordinary insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire.

Sorrento: on the Amalfi coast overlooking the Bay of Naples, this cliffside town offers spectacular views across the bay. It is also the home of limoncello.
Mount Vesuvius: famous for having buried Pompeii and Herculaneum under up to 6 meters of ash, and while currently inactive, this volcano is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted in the last century.

Summer I 2017

Mount Vesuvius, Paestum and Pompeii Field Trip: June 9-11, 2017

Pompeii, the ancient Roman town buried by a volcanic eruption, is our destination with first, a visit to the much more ancient city of Paestum and three of its most well-preserved Greek temples anywhere. We follow the development of ancient societies of the southern peninsula, looking into their houses and ancient bathing complexes, their forums and temples, theaters and shops, even their brothels. We will also climb a gravel path to the summit of the volcano Vesuvius (whether permitting). AUR provides the expert guidance. The tours are crafted to give both general overviews and more specific studies of fascinating details of ancient society. There is a lot more to explore and there will be free time for shopping, individual discovery and relaxation by the beach.
