Before joining the AUR, Professor Sottilotta was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Political Science of LUISS Guido Carli, Rome. She has been Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Salzburg, Austria (2016) and Visiting Professor at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia (2017). Her research interests span themes such as political risk, including security issues, state-MNEs relations, trade, regionalism and development, and the current and future dynamics of European fiscal and monetary integration.  

She is currently involved in the research  project  "The choice for Europe since Maastricht: Member States' preferences for economic and fiscal integration" funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
