Mask-wearing on campus
[Information updated on 5 September 2022]

The AUR Covid Task Force continues to monitor the Covid situation in Italy and especially directives and advice from the Italian government and the Italian school system. Upon further review, we have decided to drop the mandatory mask requirement in all indoor spaces at AUR until further notice. This decision is based on decreasing transmission rates and is consistent with the newly announced policy for Italian schools.

In the future, the Task Force may decide to reinstate the mask requirement should the contagion rate increase or should the government issue new requirements.

Wearing a mask indoors is still recommended as a preventative measure by the government and AUR. Therefore, each community member can make a personal decision to wear a mask, or not, while on campus. Surgical masks will still be available at the security booth in the garden.

We respect and support the decisions of individual community members around mask-wearing and ask you to be respectful as well.

Please remember that if you have cold or flu symptoms you should wear a mask in all indoors areas. The Italian government requires an FFP2/N95 mask should you be in direct contact with a positive person.

We will continue to post all government regulations and updates and AUR policy on the AUR landing page and at MyAUR.

Current italian rules for covid-19 positive persons and close contacts
Students enrolled in AUR full degree programs and study abroad programs, as well as all faculty and staff, must follow the applicable Italian (and EU) regulations on Covid-19. Any foreign regulation or recommendation, such as from the CDC, are NOT APPLICABLE in Italy and cannot be followed if they conflict with the Italian laws.

At this time, all students can plan to enter Italy for fall 2022 study without proof of Green Pass (Covid-19 vaccination) status
[Information updated on 1 September 2022].

There is currently no requirement to produce proof of Covid-19 vaccination and booster (or recovery from Covid) when entering Italy and the AUR campus.

Rules for anyone who is Covid-19 positive
[Information updated on 1 September 2022]

The Italian health authorities have issued new regulations (by the latest  Circular from the Ministry of Health) with regard to Covid-19 positive persons; these are effective from September 01, 2022, until further notice and can be summarized as follows

  •  Anyone who is Covid-19 positive must stay in full isolation for a minimum of 5 days;

  • The person in question must be without symptoms for at least 2 days, then, an official rapid or molecular test has to be taken and only if negative is the person free from isolation;

  • Otherwise, isolation will have to continue up to 14 days.

Violation of isolation is a serious infringement of the law that may even represent a crime under Italian legislation (“epidemia colposa,” - transmission of an epidemic due to negligence).

Rules for those who have been in close contact with a Covid-19 positive case
[Information updated on 1 September 2022]

Anyone who has had close contact with a Covid-19 positive subject will be obliged to follow the so-called “self-monitoring” regime (“auto sorveglianza”), which means:

  • The obligatory use of an FFP2 mask indoors, or when in crowded outdoor locations, until the 10th day after the date of the last close contact with Covid-19 positive subjects
  • The obligation to have a molecular or antigenic test whenever symptoms arise and, if still symptomatic, again on the 5th day after the last close contact.
