Arch. Fabio Barilari, architect, illustrator and professor. Graduated with honors + publication of his thesis in Architectural Design at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. The projects of Fabio Barilari Architetti studio have been published and awarded national and international prizes. They have been presented, among the others, at the Biennale di Venezia, the Biennale di Pisa and has represented the Board of Architects of Rome in the Architectural Triennial in Sofia. His project "Picture House" was selected for the Gold Medal of Italian Architecture in 2013. In 2025 his research “Vers un Dessin d'Architecture” on the creative potential of hand drawing in the AI dimension has been awarded at the Maggio dell’Architettura. In fine arts, his works have been presented, among the others, in exhibitions at Saatchi Gallery in London and at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome.
Among his collaborations as an illustrator are the Goethe‐Institut, UNIMED - Mediterranean Universities Union and Wanted in Rome. A selection of his sketchbooks and travel illustrations were published on the book “Sketching the City - Tips and Inspiration on Drawing on Location”, (DoPress Books, Hong Kong). His artwork was exhibited in numerous personal exhibitions in Italy, Germany, France, Spain, USA, China, Vietnam, Ukraine and Korea. In 2017 he collaborated with the photographer Agnes Montanari in the joint project of documenting the Za’atari Syrian Refugee Camp in Jordan and in 2015 his photo “Kolumba” was published by the National Geographic.
Since 1995, he has taught architecture and urban design, drawing, painting, history of art and architecture of Rome, digital photography, specializing in the dialogue among different forms of the creative process. He is currently Adjunct Professor at AUR - American University of Rome in Fine Arts and Art History Departments. He has taught at La Sapienza - Faculty of Architecture, Quasar Institute for Advanced Design, Temple University, Barreira A+D in Valencia and Arcadia University in Rome, and has been lecturer or guest critic for several study abroad programs, among which the California Polytechnic, Cornell University and Iowa State University.
In 2020 Barilari founded C-ROME, an organization dedicated to teaching the history of art and culture of Rome through tours and art experiences. C-ROME collaborates regularly with FAO, WFP and IFAD.
