At AUR, Sofia excelled academically while embracing leadership roles as a teaching assistant and co-president of our Film Festival Club. But it was her internship at So Fare Films, through its Emerging Creators Network (ECN), that truly propelled her from student to emerging filmmaker.
During her year with So Fare, Sofia held roles across productions: Post-Production Assistant on Minding Shadows, Second Assistant Director on Ikhaya, Director of Photography and Editor on Ramona Romana, and Content Creator for an educational film series. This hands-on environment sharpened her technical skills, creative instincts, and understanding of professional production rhythms.
AUR’s Film program - anchored in Rome’s cinematic pulse - equipped her with theory, mentorship, and a creative community of peers. That foundation enabled her to maximize opportunities like ECN. As she reflected, the internship “taught me the value of teamwork and how to give and receive feedback” while sparking her passion for producing.
Sofia’s films quickly gained recognition. Camcorder earned awards for cinematography, song, and score at the 2023 European Cinematography Awards and was a finalist at the Student Los Angeles Film Awards. Her capstone, Ad Maiora, continued her momentum, earning recognition at the Mediterraneo Festival Corto and the Prisma Rome Independent Film Awards.
Her journey underscores the power of combining strong academic foundations with experiential learning. At AUR, Sofia gained confidence and mentorship; through So Fare, she applied her skills in professional settings. The result: a graduate stepping into an MFA program with the vision and drive of an artist in motion. For Sofia, filmmaking is more than a craft or a career - it’s “taking an idea and shaping it into a complete story.” Her ambitions (and talent) span producing, directing, and writing across genres.
As she begins her next chapter at AFI, Sofia carries forward the lessons and collaborative spirit forged in two worlds - AUR’s enriching academic base and So Fare Films’ creative crucible. We wish her all the luck in the world and can’t wait to see her first full feature film!
