Students from The American University of Rome joined peers from Luiss University, Tor Vergata, Roma Tre, Sapienza University, Temple University, and John Cabot University for an intensive day of presentations, debates, and dialogue at FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) in Rome on 24 May 2024 as part of GAYD 2024. Amongst a range of motivational and inspirational discussion leaders, special thanks should go to Godfrey Magwenzi (Director of Cabinet), Maya Musenga (President of GAYD), and to panelists Marta Sachy, Debisi Araba, Nomathemba Mhlanga, Tacko Ndiaye, Hellen Sow, Zack Ahmed, and Olufemi Adesina
The Global Africa Youth Dialogue (GAYD) is an intergenerational dialogue Initiated by African students in Global Governance at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in cooperation with other African students in Rome-based universities to advocate for youth engagement In Africa's development plans and to provide and create an exchange opportunity for African youth in the diaspora to gain first-hand knowledge and foster their understanding of the functions and principles adopted by the African Union.
Aligned with the African Youth Charter adopted on July 2, 2006, GAYD is determined that Africa's greatest resource is its youthful population and that through its active and full participation, Africans can surmount the challenges of a modern Africa.
“The aim of this initiative was to create a platform in which young people could have an opportunity to have an enriching academic experience that provoked youth to be more concerned about societal matters and to realize change in their communities instead of being bystanders in an ever-dynamic and evolving world."

Of particular interest to AUR students was the generation of dialogue and ideas around farming and the economy, "There were really interesting and insightful discussions around innovative agriculture, farms as a means of income source, and wine and livestock investment as well as a series of panels where students deep-dived into different topics affecting African development. It was a really valuable and enjoyable day," stated AUR International Relations and Global Politics student Nangana Mubika, "I look forward to joining again next year to understand progress and further discuss innovation and development ideas."
