After 24 years of inspirational and dedicated service, Professor Kathleen stepped back from classroom teaching in May, 2022. One of AUR’s best loved and most active professors, Professor Fitsimmons positively impacted hundreds of young lives over the course of her time with AUR – many of those students continue to hold her as a friend and mentor long after their graduation.
Professor Fitzsimmons epitomizes AUR’s core values of teamwork & leadership, she has been a role model and inspiration throughout her time in the classroom. To honor her enormous and enduring contribution to AUR, and to the impact she has had on the students she came into contact with, the university (with Professor Fitzsimmons' enthusiastic support) has launched a campaign to establish The Fitzsimmons Scholarship for Women in Leadership.
THE SCHOLARSHIP
Symbolically representing the 24 years of service that Professor Fitzsimmons has dedicated to The American University of Rome, the scholarship will grant $24,000 per annum and will be directed annually to one outstanding female student for the entirety of her studies at AUR.
- Students applying can be of any nationality.
- They must demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.5.
- Preference will be given to those who have also demonstrated financial need.
To participate in the selection process applicants will be required to submit a scholarship application through AUR’s website along with a letter of intent.
The first scholarship will be awarded in fall 2023.
