Lorenzo Trombetta is a Beirut-based scholar and international journalist whose research focuses on Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. To date he has authored two books on contemporary Syria and several scholarly papers and chapter books based his academic study, field research, consultancy work and day-to-day personal experience with the multifaceted Middle Eastern context.

In this lecture, Professor Trombetta will talk to the audience about the challenges of the post-conflict scene in Syria and the post-Isis scenario in Iraq, with the argument that both conflict and Isis are two phenomena that are yet to enter into their "post-" phase, as the underlying local and regional causes of their emergence and survival are still there.
