On November 19, The American University of Rome’s Dramatic Arts Club wowed audiences at Teatro Testaccio with its original production, Glimpses of Us. Entirely student-conceived and produced under the artistic guidance of Professor Bruno Montefusco, the play wove a poignant and humorous narrative inspired by a grandmother’s rediscovered diary, told through four interconnected scenes.

The opening scene, Animus, explored the fraught dynamics of a job interview between two women with shared history, culminating in an emotionally charged confrontation. A comedic turn followed with a burlesque-style skit about rivals battling for the “Prince with the Most Beautiful Feet,” featuring a show-stealing squirrel puppet.

The most gripping act, A Collection of Letters Smudged by Tears, presented a tense police interrogation unraveling a woman’s alibi for her sister’s disappearance, leaving the audience in stunned silence. The finale lightened the mood with a camping trip gone hilariously awry, complete with bungled proposals, bears, and heartfelt revelations, wrapping up the night on a high note.

The success of Glimpses of Us was a testament to the creativity and dedication of its student writers—Nalu Gruschks, Lucia Guerrieri, Mia Katarina Vujicic, and Liliana Zimberg—whose imaginations brought the scenes to life. The talented cast and production team, including Bruno Bielecki, Sofia Brushtein, Madison Current, Richie Figueroa, Jayden Forsness, Ana Franco, Blythe Graser, AJ Keesler, Ayma Larroza, Eden Liu, Ellis Louda, Lenka Raicevic, Nichole Reed, Meena Sumagin, and Jamilya Tuganbekova, delivered dynamic and memorable performances. The enthusiastic audience response was a testament to the dedication and artistry of all involved.

Bravo to the Dramatic Arts Club for an unforgettable night of theater at Teatro Testaccio!
