The American University of Rome is proud to announce that Fine Arts student Amelia McRae will present her first solo exhibition, Tutto Misto, at the Tri-Mission Art Gallery at the U.S. Embassy in Rome, from July 2–31, 2025.
Born in Los Angeles and currently completing her studies in Fine Arts and Art History at AUR, McRae is an independent, outsider artist whose work draws deeply on the dual influences of her American and Italian heritage. Her Rome-based education has shaped both her technical skill and conceptual vision—blending Renaissance and contemporary motifs into a vivid, interrogative style that is uniquely her own.
Tutto Misto is a multi-media exhibition that explores the layered relationship between past and present, with themes ranging from inherited cultural memory to the psychological impacts of civil unrest. Drawing inspiration from both Italian Futurists and American Modernists, McRae's pieces blur the line between the figurative and mechanical, echoing historical cycles that precede global upheaval.
This achievement underscores the unique advantages of studying Fine Arts at The American University of Rome, where the city itself becomes a living classroom and students engage directly with Rome’s vibrant art scene. Since beginning her studies in 2021, McRae has worked with prominent galleries, institutions, and artists across the city - experiences that have helped her refine her practice and build a professional network within the international art world.
McRae credits her success to the support and challenge offered by AUR’s academic community. “The ability to become educated is an essential democratic right which must be consistently exercised in an era where information seems to be at its most accessible, overwhelmingly so,” she notes. “I thank The American University of Rome for challenging me, supporting me, and guiding me towards forging my personal path.”
