Giulia della Gala is an Adjunct Professor of Italian Language and Culture at the American University of Rome. Her career spans over fifteen years at the intersection of language teaching, Arabic studies, and cultural mediation.
Between 2009 and 2012 she lived in Damascus, where she worked as a Lecturer of Italian Language and Culture at the University of Damascus and at the Italian Cultural Institute. Back in Italy, she taught Italian and Arabic at the Army Foreign Language School in Perugia and works as a NATO JFLT examiner. At the University for Foreigners of Perugia (UNISTRAPG) she served as Lecturer of Italian Language and subsequently worked at the CVCL as an expert, examiner and corrector for the CELI Italian language certifications. She has also taught Italian language at the Università degli Studi di Perugia, Università degli Studi Roma Tre, the Pontificia Università Urbaniana in Vatican City, and St. John's University in Rome.
In the field of Arabic studies, she taught Arabic Dialectology and History and Culture of Islamic Countries at the University of Tuscia for several years, and served as Lecturer in Linguistic Mediation for Levantine Arabic within the Master's programme in Oriental Studies at IULM - University of Languages and Communication in Rome. She has also worked as a linguistic mediator and judicial interpreter for Syrian Arabic. Her research interests include Italian language didactics, transnational Islam, sectarianism in Islam.
