Merit-based AUR Scholarships

For new incoming degree-seeking students at AUR, there is ONE application for all of the below merit-based scholarships at AUR. You can apply for multiple scholarships that are applicable to you, however, please note that you can only be awarded one merit-based scholarship. While these scholarships are not able to be combined with each other, they can be combined with a financial need scholarship and/or a student training position. Each academic year, a maximum of €7000 or $8000 annually will be awarded to up to three students per scholarship.

The Building Bridges Scholarship   The Global Scholar Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to multilingual individual(s) who have proven themselves to be global communicators. For students who have striven to understand and bridge multiple cultures through the use of language.   AUR’s Global Scholar scholarship has been designed to reward the best of the best. If you’re an applicant with a GPA of over 3.5, you are encouraged to apply for this award.

H. Jackson Brown Dreamers’ Scholarship   The Italian Pioneer Scholarship
“Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” So wrote H. Jackson Brown in 1990 – and he could have been describing any one of our students. The Dreamer’s Scholarship is open to any student who aspires to leave their comfort zone and break the mold.   This scholarship is awarded to Italian citizens and/or individuals of direct Italian heritage and is one of the small ways that AUR contributes towards the support and development of Italian communities worldwide as a thank you to our amazing host nation.

The World Citizen Scholarship   The Ambassador Scholarship (Undergraduate Only)
Welcome home, traveler! The AUR World Citizen Scholarship is awarded to individuals who have previously studied with AUR as Visiting Students and/or have studied with an institutional partner of American Universities Abroad.   This scholarship is dedicated to students coming from International and/or IB schools who are in the process or who have completed the full IB diploma. Students must demonstrate their record for, and future potential in, fostering & promoting intercultural understanding in a global context.

The International Exchange Scholarship (Undergraduate Only)   The Model United Nations Scholarship (Undergraduate Only)
Did you have a life-changing opportunity studying abroad in high school? Calling all returned HS Exchange Students (Rotary, AFS, YFU etc.) and Italian students who have been to the US for a year—come and continue the journey at AUR!   This scholarship is designed for all global citizens with a deep interest in cultures, diversity and international perspectives. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year of Model United Nations and participated in one MUN conference.

The Transfer Trailblazer Scholarship (Undergraduate Only)
The AUR Transfer Trailblazer Scholarship is a selective scholarship awarded on the basis of academic achievement for transfer students with a minimum of 30 credits at the time of entry to AUR.

Need-based AUR Scholarships

Financial Need Scholarship   Hardship Scholarship (Undergraduate Only)
For new incoming degree-seeking students at AUR, Financial Need scholarships are renewable annually until degree requirements are met for a maximum of four years (depending which comes first). Returning students must apply each semester for the AUR hardship scholarship. Students must remain in good academic standing. All scholarships are only applicable during the spring and fall semesters.   For returning degree-seeking undergraduate students, this scholarship is offered to students who have found themselves in financial hardship and need financial assistance returning to their studies. The amount students receive varies depending upon their temporary financial needs. The Hardship Scholarship is not renewed automatically from one academic year to the next, students must reapply.

Affiliation Scholarships

Sons and Daughters of Italy Scholarship   National Italian American Foundation
The Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America offers a scholarship together with The American University of Rome to American students with Italian heritage. The winning scholarship recipient will receive a maximum of $2,500 each academic semester and is awarded based on merit. The OSDIA Committee selects the recipient based on academic merit (including test scores, transcripts, and a letter of recommendation), the essay response, and community service/volunteerism. Both new and returning AUR students are eligible to apply. Deadline: February 28th   The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) offer various merit scholarships per year to an AUR graduate or undergraduate student of Italian heritage. The NIAF committee requires a minimum 3.5 GPA or higher, an online application, two letters of recommendation, an essay response and a small fee of $30 to become a member. Award amounts vary. Deadline: March 1st

AUR's Sibling Discount
Definition of Sibling: The student must be one of two or more children having one or both parents in common. This discount is not available to family members outside the sibling relationship such as cousins, spouses and so on. Discount: A student who has a sibling who is studying at The American University of Rome is eligible to a 20% discount. The discount will apply only to the second sibling and only when both are enrolled simultaneously and are degree-seeking students at AUR. If one graduates, transfers, drops to part time enrollment status, or drops out, the remaining one pays full tuition less any scholarships/work study he/she may have. The students must be making satisfactory academic progress. The discount will only apply to tuition costs.

AmeriCorps (Undergraduate)
The American University of Rome offers up to 3 undergraduate scholarships of €1,500/$2,000 per academic year to AmeriCorps students. This scholarship is automatically renewable for students in good academic standing until degree requirements are met, for a maximum of four years.
