Join AUR in Washington D.C. as our President Richard Hodges interviews AUR’s original Dean of Students, Joan Colin Carpenter as they discuss the early days of the University.  Will they debunk the myth that AUR was a “school for spies?”   Join us and find out!  Plus, get your copy of AUR’s newly published history, “The Story So Far.”

Joan Colin Carpenter is an alumna of Smith College, where she studied architecture.  As a practicing interior designer, she worked for many years with the U.S. State Department, and was responsible for the interior design of ambassadorial residences around the world. Between 1995 – 2004, she was the manager of Villa Taverna in Rome, the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Italy. Joan is the former wife of David T. Colin, one of the three founders of the American University of Rome.  She served as AUR’s first Dean of Students and has remained involved with AUR since its founding in 1969. She currently teaches Italian in the Washington D.C. metro area.
