Admission to The American University of Rome is selective, but inclusive - we welcome applicants of all backgrounds.
Applicants are required to submit academic transcripts covering the last three years of study.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for consideration. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 are welcome to apply for admissions but will be required to complete an admissions interview as part of the evaluation process.

Academic Transcripts for First-Year Applicants
Applicants in their final year of secondary school must submit an official transcript reflecting the last three years of academic study. The transcript should clearly indicate the name of the final certificate expected, along with the anticipated date of completion.
Students are also encouraged to submit copies of any qualifying examinations completed during secondary school, such as IGCSE/GCSE results, AP exam scores, or equivalent assessments.
Please note that the Admissions Office may request additional documentation as needed.
If your country is not listed or you are uncertain about which documents to submit, please contact us at admissions@aur.edu for further assistance.
Academic Transcripts for Transfer Students
Transfer applicants must submit official transcripts covering the last three years of academic study. This includes records from all secondary schools, colleges, or universities attended. Transcripts must clearly show courses completed, grades earned, and academic standing.
If transcripts are not in English, a certified English translation is required. These documents are essential for evaluating transfer credit eligibility and determining academic placement within your intended program.
English Language Proficiency
All students at AUR are required to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the English language to ensure success in their academic pursuits. English language proficiency can be evidenced through one of the following options:
English is your native language.
English has been the primary language of instruction for the past three years. The American University of Rome follows GOV.UK guidelines when determining whether a country's public school system qualifies as English-speaking.
All students who have not completed their last three years of schooling in English must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting test scores from TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or Cambridge English.
The minimum score requirements for admissions consideration are outlined below:
TOEFL | IELTS Academic | Cambridge First | Cambridge CAE | Cambridge Linguaskill | Duolingo |
85 or higher | 6.5 | 180 or higher | 180 or higher | 180 or higher | 120 or higher |
Admitted students will be required to submit official test scores sent from the testing agency at that time.
SAT & ACT Scores
SAT and ACT scores are optional and therefore not a requirement for admission to AUR.
The American University of Rome SAT institutional code for reporting purposes is 0262. Information concerning the SAT may be obtained at College Board.
The American University of Rome ACT institutional code for reporting purposes is 5392. Information concerning the ACT may be obtained at ACT.
