ModPortrait 2020 is the eighth edition of the annual painting competition hosted by Galeria Artelibra in collaboration with the Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes, the foundation behind the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona. The competition was conceived specifically to promote and disseminate Figurative Art, encourage artistic initiatives, and sponsor working artists. Entry to the competition is open to all artists but the exclusive theme is 'portrait' and all artworks must be in the figurative art mode. Judging, undertaken by an esteemed panel of celebrated artists, is based upon both technical skills and the originality of the subject.
Professor Timothy Joseph Allen is an American figurative painter who has been living and working in Rome for over twenty years. He began his career in 1992, earning a BA in Studio Art at DePauw University and an MFA in Painting at Indiana University, Bloomington in 1998. He has been teaching at The American University of Rome since 2006. Professor Allen’s medium is oil on canvas and his style and subject matter are predominantly inspired by the Renaissance and Baroque.
All shortlisted artworks will be exhibited at two ModPortrait 2020 shows. The first exhibition will be in the Bantierra Palace in Zaragoza, Spain from April to May, 2021. The second will be at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Spain in June 2021.
