On October 16, students of the International Relations & Global Politics program at The American University of Rome attended a presentation by Mariana Almeida Florio, Associate of Recruitment and Admissions at the Hertie School in Berlin. During the session, Ms. Florio introduced the Hertie School's two-year master’s programs in Public Policy, International Affairs, and Data Science for Public Policy. The presentation covered a range of key topics, including academics, housing options, partner institutions, internship opportunities, alumni networking, and graduates' employment prospects.
The Hertie School’s master’s programs are open to students from all academic disciplines, although having a background in International Relations provides a significant advantage. As part of a new agreement between AUR and Hertie, financial aid will be made available to select AUR applicants, in addition to other opportunities the school offers.
Another exciting aspect of this collaboration is the organization of annual field trips to Berlin, which are open to all AUR students. These trips, designed to leverage Hertie’s institutional access and expertise in Germany’s capital, will fully integrate into AUR’s academic offerings as 1-credit courses. The initiative provides a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand insights into Berlin's political, economic, and policy-making processes.
Ms. Florio’s presentation followed an earlier visit from Hertie School’s Managing Director, Dr. Axel Baisch. Further collaboration was discussed during a productive meeting with AUR’s Dean of Academic Affairs and the Program Director of the International Relations and Global Politics program. This growing partnership was sparked by the success of AUR graduates who have been admitted to Hertie’s master’s programs—a testament to their academic strength and their role as outstanding ambassadors for AUR.
The American University of Rome is proud of this promising institutional relationship and the new avenues it opens for its students in the fields of public policy and international affairs. We look forward to continued collaboration with the Hertie School and the exciting opportunities it will bring to our academic community.
