FAFD 309 – PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION

Students will be encouraged to focus on the process of creating the image and develop their own photographic vision avoiding visual pitfalls and dull, uninventive images. They will learn to approach the making of images as visual storytelling. This is not only true in motion pictures. The juxtaposition and interplay of photographs is key in telling a story in still images as photos may spark off a new illumination when effectively arranged together in a sequence.

Students will be taught how to effectively communicate with their cameras. They will learn how to reach maximum impact through careful composition in different areas of photography such as photojournalism, the portrait, and advertising. They will also be taught the meaning of scene
blocking and lighting, and cinematic motion in film.

Pre-requisites: FAFD 104 or permission of the instructor.
