Having an internship with Congresswoman Velazquez this summer was a unique and rewarding experience. This was my first internship and I had no experience in an office setting and even less experience in politics, but everyone in my office was thoughtful, patient and helped me to improve my skills during my time there. I was able to improve my reading, writing and vocabulary by working on different assignments mainly about the constituents of New York, seeing that my Congresswoman represents their 7th district. I also had the opportunity to work with different interns from different backgrounds and in some cases even political figures. Working for the government opened my eyes to the reality of what happens behind the scenes and how situations and conflicts evolve and form into something bigger. I enjoyed my summer at the Capitol and I would recommend anyone looking for a great, different and life changing experience to apply for an internship there.
