Professor Peter Gould publishes new book: 'Empowering Communities through Archaeology and Heritage'

The American University of Rome's Professor Peter Gould,  M.A. Sustainable Cultural Heritage and M.A. Arts Management, seeks to identify the success factors associated with economic development projects within communities adjacent to archaeological or heritage sites, a growing interest among archaeologists and heritage managers. Typically, the success of site museums, tourism businesses, or crafts cooperatives is rarely reported on in scholarly literature or subjected to systematic study. This new book, Empowering Communities through Archaeology and Heritage, addresses that gap. 

New Executive Board for AUR Business Club

Sephardi Voices at The American University of Rome

Sephardi Voices Executive Director Henry Green and Media Director David Langer held production workshops here at the American University of Rome in 2017 and there was a pilot project to interview members of Libyan Jewish community in Italy. Rome is home to thousands of Libyan Jews who fled their country after the 1967 Arab-Israel war. The last Jew in Libya was an 80-year-old woman who left the country in 2003. “They were displaced and persecuted,” said AUR's Professor Villani (Film and Digital Media). “These are stories of people starting a new life somewhere else, stories of loss and dealing with psychological issues. Students interested in writing get lots of stories, some sad, dramatic, even tragic. But it’s an all-around positive experience. Everyone has a different, unique take on it.”

New articles published by Richard Hodges, AUR President

When AUR President Richard Hodges is not based in Rome at the helm of the University, he can often be found in a corner of the Mediterranean adding another excavation to his lengthy and esteemed list of digs. In the past couple of months, several articles by Professor Hodges reporting back on his excavations have been published in Archaeology magazines.

Dr. Harold Alderman, Visiting Professor of The American University of Rome, Senior Research Fellow of the Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) will be giving a seminar in FAO on 18 January 2018 on the recent book he co-authored entitled “The 1.5 Billion People Question: Food, Vouchers, or Cash Transfers?”.

The American Playwrights Project in Rome, Dec. 2017

​The American University of Rome is pleased to announce a partnership with Umanism and 369gradi to help bring the Italian and American Playwrights Project (IAPP) to Rome. Establishing institutional and cultural links across the Atlantic, the Project fosters an exchange between contemporary Italian and American playwrights by bringing together authors, producers, and audiences and supporting theatrical performances that cultivates an open dialogue between artists in Italy and the United States.

The American University of Rome mounted a wonderful thanksgiving dinner. Over 120 came from as far away as Sacramento. The atmosphere was familial and warm as we packed this host in our underground theatre and ate turkey and an idiosyncratic Italian version of stuffing.
