Program Director. Prof. Irene Caratelli has been at AUR since 2010, and became an Associate Professor in 2013. Her areas of expertise encompass three disciplines: International Relations, European Studies and International Political Economy. At AUR, Professor Caratelli has been teaching introductory classes to Political Science; advanced classes on Democracy and Democratization; International Political Economy; The US, the EU and China.

Professor Francesca Conti, PhD
Adjunct Professor. Prof. Conti’s research focuses mostly on emigration/immigration/asylum; sport; integration and human rights in a comparative, international perspective. Prof. Conti is currently working on two research projects: the first one, in collaboration with CSER, Centro Studi Migrazione, aims to identify and to exchange good practices of migrants’ integration across Italy. The second one, sponsored by the Istituto San Pio V, aims to critically assess human rights in both theory and practice.

Professor Catherine Cornet, PhD
Adjunct Professor. Dr. Catherine Cornet trained as a political scientist and an Arabist in France and the UK. She has 15 years of experience in Middle Eastern affairs and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and has travelled extensively in the region for EU-funded projects as a researcher and journalist. Since 2001, she has written for the Italian newsmagazine, Internazionale, and is a free-lancer for many French media outlets, including ARTE Television and France 5.

Professor Andrea Dessì, PhD
Professor. Before joining AUR, Professor Dessì worked for over a decade in the policy research world at Italy’s leading think tank, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), where he remains an Associated Fellow. Based in Rome, Professor Dessì directed the Institute’s Italian Foreign Policy program and the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Africa research program, overseeing research projects, consultancy tasks, and media outreach on behalf of the Institute. During this time, Professor Dessì founded IAI’s English-language op-ed series, the IAI Commentaries, which he oversaw as Scientific Director (2017-2022) and has contributed to several EU-funded projects and research tasks (FP7 & H2020), cooperating with the Italian Foreign Ministry, EU institutions, and the private sector in Italy and abroad.

Professor Antonio Marchesi, PhD
Adjunct Professor. Professor Marchesi has always combined teaching and research on international law in an academic environment with consultancies and human rights work for NGOs. He has been an active member of Amnesty International since 1977, and he is currently the Chair of Amnesty International Italy. He has been a staff member and consultant for the International Secretariat of Amnesty International, as well as a research delegate, trial observer, and member of delegations to international conferences, includign the Diplomatic Conference in 1998 which adopted the Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Professor Giorgio Poti', PhD
Adjunct Professor. Professor Potì’s expertise and research interests lie in modern European history, the international relations of the Mediterranean, comparative imperialism and nationalism, and international legal history. He has especially worked on the political, legal and ethical reconfiguration of colonial empires in the interwar years.

Professor Laura Prota, PhD
Professor. Specialized in social network analysis and rural development, Professor Prota adopts a relational approach to study the configuration of agricultural production and innovation systems under globalization. She published on issues related to the specificity of Southeast Asian market transition with a particular focus on place and path dependent trajectories of development, land markets, persistent poverty, gender and labor rights. Professor Prota also published methodological articles on network analysis aiming at identifying methods to identify the structural evolutionary patterns of economic systems.

Professor Luca Ratti, PhD
Adjunct Professor. Professor Ratti's research and teaching interests lie in post-World War Two international history, specifically U.S.-European relations, NATO’s evolution and European security and defense policies, and international relations theory. He is particularly interested in the post-Cold War challenges for NATO, Anglo-American relations and Germany in the Cold War and after, and in the broader question of the changing nature of regional and world security.

Professor Ferro Trabalzi, PhD
Adjunct Professor. With a background in Urban Sociology, Architecture, Urban Design and Urban Planning and a teaching experience spanning over three continents (North America, Europe and Africa) Prof. Trabalzi teaches contemporary urbanism in Rome where he takes students to visit areas of the city outside the historical center. Prof. Trabalzi takes the city of Rome as a laboratory for in-depth socio-anthropological analyses of contemporary life in the age of globalization.
