International migration poses a number of important challenges in today's globalized world. In the last twenty years, the Mediterranean  has been the center of several migratory routes connecting the Middle East and the Southern rim of the"Mare Nostrum" to Europe. Governmental and non governmental actors have recently clashed over what is the right way to address the ongoing "migratory crisis". This conference brings together Dr Antonio Marchesi (Professor of International Law and President of Amnesty International Italy), Dr Gabriele Eminente (Director General Médecins Sans Frontières - MSF)and Dr Lyal Sunga (Professor of International Law, AUR and Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law), three  leading  experts who will discuss whether as some claim life-saving operations a threat to security, or rather constitute a necessary response to a humanitarian emergency.
